Spectroscopy, lifetime and decay modes of the $T^-_{bb}$ tetraquark

2019

We present the first full-fledged study of the flavor-exotic isoscalar $T_{bb}^-\equiv b b \bar u \bar d$ tetraquark with spin and parity $J^P=1^+$. We report accurate solutions of the four-body problem in a quark model, characterizing the structure of the state as a function of the ratio $M_Q/m_q$ of the heavy to light quark masses. For such a standard constituent model, $T_{bb}^-$ lies approximately 150 MeV below the strong decay threshold $B^-\bar {B^*}^{0}$ and 105 MeV below the electromagnetic decay threshold $B^- \bar B^0 \gamma$. We evaluate the lifetime of $T_{bb}^-$, identifying the promising decay modes where the tetraquark might be looked for in future experiments. Its total deca…

Effect of relativistic kinematics on the stability of multiquarks

2021

We discuss whether the bound nature of multiquark states in quark models could benefit from relativistic effects on the kinetic energy operator. For mesons and baryons, relativistic corrections to the kinetic energy lead to lower energies, and thus call for a retuning of the parameters of the model. For multiquark states, as well as their respective thresholds, a comparison is made of the results obtained with non-relativistic and relativistic kinetic energy. It is found that the binding energy is lower in the relativistic case. In particular, $QQ\bar q\bar q$ tetraquarks with double heavy flavor become stable for a larger ratio of the heavy to light quark masses; and the all-heavy tetraqua…

Search for pair production of first or second generation leptoquarks in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the LHC

2011

This paper describes searches for the pair production of first or second generation scalar leptoquarks using 35  pb−1 of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at √s=7  TeV. Leptoquarks are searched in events with two oppositely-charged muons or electrons and at least two jets, and in events with one muon or electron, missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. After event selection, the observed yields are consistent with the predicted backgrounds. Leptoquark production is excluded at the 95% CL for masses MLQ<376 (319) GeV and MLQ<422 (362) GeV for first and second generation scalar leptoquarks, respectively, when assuming the branching fraction of a leptoquark…

The charm-quark contribution to light-by-light scattering in the muon (−2) from lattice QCD

2022

We compute the hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution to the muon $g-2$ from the charm quark using lattice QCD. The calculation is performed on ensembles generated with dynamical $(u,d,s)$ quarks at the SU(3)$_{\rm f}$ symmetric point with degenerate pion and kaon masses of around 415 MeV. It includes the connected charm contribution, as well as the leading disconnected Wick contraction, involving the correlation between a charm and a light-quark loop. Cutoff effects turn out to be sizeable, which leads us to use lighter-than-physical charm masses, to employ a broad range of lattice spacings reaching down to 0.039 fm and to perform a combined charm-mass and continuum extrapolation.…
